Google Ads landing page review: fix a "Below average" landing page experience

Every click on your ad costs money. If the page it lands on doesn't match the search, explain the offer fast and make the next step obvious, that spend leaks. This page explains what Google says it measures (with sources), a checklist for pages that receive paid traffic, and a $19 review that gives you 3 copy fixes within 24h.

What Google says it measures

Google's Quality Score help page says Quality Score "is measured on a scale from 1-10 and available at the keyword level" and is calculated from 3 components: expected clickthrough rate, ad relevance and landing page experience, defined as "How relevant and useful your landing page is to people who click your ad." Each component is rated "Above average," "Average," or "Below average," based on "a comparison with other advertisers whose ads showed for the exact same search over the last 90 days."

Two caveats from the same page: "Quality Score is not an input in the ad auction," and it "is not a key performance indicator." Treat a low landing page rating as a pointer to fix the page, not a score to chase.

Checklist for a page that receives paid traffic

  1. Match the search. The headline should repeat the problem or product the visitor searched for and your ad promised.
  2. One offer, one action. Paid visitors should see a single clear CTA above the fold. See our above-the-fold review.
  3. Proof near the CTA. Customer names, numbers or a short testimonial. See the trust signals review.
  4. Works on a phone. Much paid traffic is mobile; check the mobile review.
  5. No surprises after the click. Price, trial terms or signup steps should match what the ad implied.

These are copy and clarity checks. Page speed, tracking and bidding are outside this review.

FAQ

What is landing page experience in Google Ads?

Google defines it as how relevant and useful your landing page is to people who click your ad. It is one of 3 components of Quality Score, alongside expected clickthrough rate and ad relevance.

My landing page experience is Below average. What should I do?

Google says that if a component has a status of Average or Below average, this may indicate an opportunity to make improvements. Start with the page itself: does the headline match the search and the ad, is the offer clear above the fold, and is the next step obvious?

Will a better landing page raise my Quality Score right away?

Not necessarily. Google compares you with other advertisers whose ads showed for the exact same search over the last 90 days, so changes take time to show. Google also says Quality Score is not an input in the ad auction; it is a diagnostic tool.

Do you manage my Google Ads account?

No. We don't log in to your account, change bids or keywords, or promise a Quality Score. We review the landing page your ads send people to and give you 3 copy changes.

What do I receive for $19?

3 before and after rewrites for the highest-impact spots on your page (hero, CTA, offer or proof), each with a one-line reason and a metric hypothesis, ready to paste, within 24h of 1 BTC confirmation. No call and no account.
