Landing page value proposition review: is yours clear in 10 seconds?
If visitors can't tell what you offer, who it's for and why it beats the alternative, nothing further down the page gets read. This page gives you a sourced definition, the four questions a value proposition must answer, a quick self-test, and a $19 review that rewrites it — plus 2 more high-impact fixes — within 24h.
What a value proposition is — and why it gets 10 seconds
CXL's guide defines it as "a promise of value to be delivered: the primary reason a prospect should buy from you instead of a competitor". It isn't a slogan, a catch phrase or a positioning statement.
It also has very little time. Nielsen Norman Group found that users often leave web pages in 10–20 seconds, and that to gain several minutes of attention you must clearly communicate your value proposition within 10 seconds.
The 4 questions it must answer
CXL suggests checking whether your current value proposition answers these:
- What are you selling? The product or service, in plain words.
- What's the end-benefit? What the customer gets done or avoids.
- Who is it for? The target customer, named clearly enough that they recognise themselves.
- What makes it different? Why you instead of the alternative they already use.
CXL's suggested structure: a headline with the end-benefit in one short sentence, a sub-headline or 2–3 sentence paragraph explaining what you do, for whom and why it's useful, three bullet points, and a visual.
A 5-minute self-test
- Cover everything below the hero. Read only the headline and subhead. Can you answer all 4 questions?
- Run a 5-second test with one person in your audience: show the page for 5 seconds, then ask what it does and who it's for. Lyssna's five second testing guide explains how; the method helps you understand what people notice and remember in those first moments.
- Swap in a competitor's name. If your headline still reads true for them, it doesn't say what makes you different.
- Look for a slogan. If the headline could be on a billboard for any company, rewrite it as a concrete benefit.

What the $19 review gives you
We read your live page and start with the value proposition. You get 3 before → after rewrites (headline and subhead first, then the CTA, offer or proof gaps most likely to cost you signups), each with a one-line reason and a metric hypothesis, ready to paste, within 24h of 1 BTC confirmation. No call and no account. See an example deliverable (excerpt from a public sample) or browse all public samples.
Honest limits: we work from your page and what you tell us, not from interviews with your customers. If your positioning itself is unclear — you're not sure who the product is for — that's a research job for you or a copywriter, and we'll say so.
You get a BTC invoice page with address, amount, a QR code and an open-in-wallet link. Work starts once payment is seen. Not sure yet? Ask for 1 free observation on /audit.
FAQ
What is a value proposition on a landing page?
CXL defines it as a promise of value to be delivered: the primary reason a prospect should buy from you instead of a competitor. On a landing page it usually lives in the headline, the line under it and what you show next to them.
How do I know if my value proposition is clear?
Check whether the top of your page answers four questions CXL lists: what you sell, the end-benefit, who it's for, and what makes it different. Then show the page to someone in your audience for 5 seconds and ask them to repeat it back.
Why does the value proposition matter so much?
Nielsen Norman Group found that users often leave web pages in 10–20 seconds, and that to gain several minutes of attention you must clearly communicate your value proposition within 10 seconds.
Is a slogan a value proposition?
No. CXL's guide is explicit that a value proposition is not a slogan or a catch phrase, and not a positioning statement. It should say what you offer, for whom and why it's useful.
What do I receive for $19?
3 before and after rewrites for the highest-impact spots on your page, starting with the value proposition (headline, subhead, CTA or proof), each with a one-line reason and a metric hypothesis, ready to paste, within 24h of 1 BTC confirmation. No call and no account.
